G6 Christmas Party

Today was the G6 Christmas Party! It was at the "Park" by the Hale Koa on Waikiki. It was beautiful weather and the party was amazingly well put together. The kids really had a great time and I did too, which is saying a lot for an Army function!
We started off with some mingling and getting to know everyone a little bit, then a pot luck turkey dinner. I have to say there was plenty of yummy food! Then it didn't take long for all the action to begin! Santa, a treasure hunt, a pinata, and white elephant exchanges, plus it was all right on the beach, so after the party we spent some time at Waikiki, and it wasn't too crowded which was nice! We really had a fun day!

For Hawaii standards this was an amazingly good Santa, he even had a helpful elf!

They had a "treasure hunt" in the sand, which couldn't have pleased my boys more. Someone had buried "treasure" before hand and then they let the kids dig and find it. Each bag had a big item and lots of candy.

Daniel loved the treasure hunt but was a little confused because there was no "x" to tell him where to dig. All good treasure maps have an "x".

They had a really cute candy cane pinata. Daniel thought he was in the major leagues, swinging the bat as hard as he could to no avail... 3 strikes and it didn't break, someone elses turn. James also did his best to break it, yet didn't. Somehow I didn't get a picture of James.

This is Daniel collecting all of his candy and treasures after it broke. James mostly went for the red and green pens, he thought they were fabulous! He was a great 'sharer' though. Daniel didn't get any pens nor did some other little girls and he was very good to give them each one of his! What a good man!

Getting all set up in the sand is always fun. It usually takes Sophia a little while to warm up to getting in the sand or the water! She is usally pretty good to just sit in my chair and not even try to move off of it, because there is sand all around her!

Sterling and the boys playing in the water! The water was probably in the 70's. Not super warm, but warm enough to play in for a while! It was in the low 80's today and overcast so it was a pretty nice day for being at the beach.

Daniel clawing his way out of the water up the sandy, shelly, rocky, beach. Waikiki, at least this part of it didn't have soft nice sand. It had owey pokey rocks!

James showing Sterling his latest rock find! He will always be a collector!

I took her shoes off of her and she wasn't very pleased. I took her down to the water and she slowly warmed up to the water and had a great time. She mostly just wanted to sit on Sterling or my lap. Because I was in the water... we didn't get pictures of her in the water. I will try harder next time!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Bouncing Sophia!

Sophia loves this little trampoline. She bounces it all over the yard. If it isn't up against the house it moves when she bounces. She can get some serious "air". She is getting so big way too fast! (Daniel can "sense" when the camera is on, he always wants to come and be on camera too!)

Random Things

There are just some random events that "need " to be blogged. My family is getting very good at finding things for me to blog. It is kind of funny.

Sophia really wanted to play Nintendo with James. So she climbed up in the chair next to him with the controller and "played" right along with him. She was pretty funny!

Sterling is trying an experiment! He is growing his own pineapple! He has researched it on line and it should only take about a YEAR! So phase one is done, it sat in a cup with water to grow some roots.... now it is planted, with Daniels "special" help.

I had never seen anything like this. A friend of ours sent this to us as a Thank You. It is all edible. The kids thought it was fabulous! It is all fruit shaped like a flower bouquet!
Thanks Cat.. it was lots of fun!

Funny Daniel!

This is my conversation this morning with Daniel,

Daniel: " Do Mermaids swim? "
Mom: "Yes"
Daniel: "They are Mysterious Creatures!"
Mom: "Where did you learn 'mysterious creatures' from?"
Daniel: "We will just have to go to the library and learn more about Mermaids because they are Mysterious!"

He is 3 years old! I don't know where he learns these things!
I don't say 'Mysterious'! What a funny kid!

Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!

It has been raining pretty hard for 4 days now.
You can only stay inside for so long!

So James says to Sterling yesterday morning, "I'm going for a bike ride!". Sterling reminded him that it was raining. James says, "I don't care!" So James goes out and rides. About 10 minutes later he comes back, soaking wet and says, "Dad, I want you to come ride bikes with me, none of my friends want to ride in the rain!" So Sterling changes his clothes, although he really didn't want to get soaking wet. Sterling got his rain jacket and he went out to ride with James for a "little bit"! They decided to go up toward the Navy Lodge were the "good" puddles are! I didn't get any pictures of them up there but it sounds like they had an incredible time. The water in some places went up to James' knees according to James! They were both covered in mud when they got home, but that wasn't enough. They came home and to "wash up" a little. Sterling got out the hose to wash some of the mud off. Then that escallated into running in the sprinklers at the park (that are stuck on). Then just playing in the rain in the ally. The rain would come and go in waves. It would rain supper hard, so hard that it hurt, then it would slow down to a drizzle, then back up again. I think all in all they were out there for about 3 hours! Daniel got brave at the end and played in the ally with the boys!

They were really having a great time.... it was so much rain!

Making "rain angels"

Daniel wanted something to float in the "stream". So we got some foam paper to float. James was blue, Daniel was orange, and Sterling was yellow. The plan was for a race, but a little cheating happened!

Sophia was brave enough to go out when it was barely drizzling, but as soon as it started raining again she ran for the garage! She wants to be big like the boys, but doesn't like rain on her head!

I'm not sure who is having more fun, Sterling or Daniel!

James said he was ready to go inside.... so they started taking their wet clothes off, then it started to rain hard again. Daniel still wanted to run and evidently so did Sterling!

Winterfest '08

Winterfest 2008
It was a lot of fun and really crazy. It was supposed to be outside, but because of all the rain it was moved indoors. They didn't have enough room to put up all the bounce houses and things, but the kids still had a great time!

If I don't look at what I am coloring, maybe you wont see that I am coloring on the table!

Daniel sat in Sophia's stroller for more than half the night. He was a little overwhelmed by all the people and noise. He did finally get used to it and wanted to get out and do some of the activities!

James crolling through the "tubes".

Daniel popping out to scare us all!

Waiting in line to see Santa!

Seriously!
Hawaiian Santa!
James wasn't so sure what to think of him!

Sophia didn't want to stay on his lap,
James was telling him his entire list of things he wants this year, and
Daniel just wanted to get a present!
(Disney donated tons of movies.. each kid got to choose one!)
James was trying to bounce with her but it wasn't working very well!

Sophia was trying to ride with Daniel.. it was a pretty crazy ride!

Daniel loved these inflatable horses!

There were lots of different sizes! He finally found one his size!

Sophia wanted to bounce, but they were all too big for her... She bounced for a minute with Sterling then decided it would be much better to just wonder around!

We had a fun time!

December 7th, 2008 Pearl Harbor Day

We got up early this morning to go see the ship circle Ford Island. There has been a sign up for the last two weeks saying that the bridge from Ford Island to Oahu would be closed from 6am to 9:15. So we knew something was going to be happening. We also knew that the bridge was closed and we wouldn't be able to make it to church. So Sterling and I got substitutes for our classes and for the Organist. As soon as we were pulling out of our subdivision we could see the ship pulling around the bottom of Ford Island, so we drove over and took a picture, then we went up by the bridge to wait for the ship to make it's way up there. It is always neat to see the Navy ShipMen lined up around the ship as it comes into port. We had never seen the bridge up so that was also neat. It was a fun morning to mingle with friends on the bridge and watch. Pretty amazing to think that 67 years ago today, Pearl Harbor was attacked.
I took lots of pictures and even a video so you could be here too!

At the bottom of Ford Island
Every year a different ship gets the honor of circling Ford Island on Pearl Harbor Day.

This is on the Bridge, which is usually no stopping and lots of traffic.
Daniel with his monster bag of Lucky Charms, James as the self-appointed Sophia tracker, and Sophia walking everywhere. Isn't Sophia cute in her new dress and shoes!
She is growing so fast. She is 15 months old today!

Trying to take a picture with the Morning sun in their eyes!

This is proof that I was there too!
(Yet again, with the sun in our eyes, not a great picture but we are all there!)

Sophia and Sterling watching the ship.
Sophia wanted up on the wall so bad, so she could see, but didn't want to be held!

Here is the ship getting ready to go through the bridge!

This video has the ship going through the bridge
and the Air Force Jets flying the Missing Man Formation.
What you don't see on the Video is that in the first frame there are 4 jets, then when I turn around there are only 3, because the 4th Jet takes off going almost straight up.
It was pretty impressive.

More beautiful wreaths at the USS Utah Memorial

They put out all new big flags today!
There is always enough wind to keep them flying high!
